Electrocyclic reaction of crown-containing 2-styrylbenzothiazoles

The photoinduced electrocyclic transformation of 15-crown-5-containing 2-styryl- benzothiazoles into condensed benzothiazoloquinoline derivatives was discovered. The process is accompanied by the formation of a C—N bond and elimination of a hydrogen atom.
